Cavalier Fuel Computer Programming Service

(applies to Mk3 Cavalier, Calibra, Carlton and Senator)

To get the miles per gallon figure displayed by your fuel computer to be correct with non-standard engines, fuel pressures or injectors etc, here is the procedure that you will need to follow to give me the information I need:

  1. Fill your fuel tank to the brim, so that you almost get wet feet.  This is the only way of getting an exact (and repeatable) amount of fuel in your tank.
  2. Before driving out of the petrol station, reset your fuel computer miles/gallon display and zero the trip odometer on the dash.
  3. Drive round as normal until the tank is almost empty (under 1/4 full).
  4. Refuel the tank again to the same point (almost wet feet) again and read off the displayed mpg figure on the fuel computer, also write down the trip odometer reading for the miles done on that tank and the amount of fuel you put in the second time.

So to recap...  I need the following info:

  • number of miles driven on the full tank (in miles)
  • amount of petrol you put in the tank the second time you filled up (in litres)
  • displayed miles/gallon figure from the fuel computer

It's really important to stick to this procedure and write everything down accurately.  The Cavalier fuel computer is pretty accurate itself so it would be a shame not to programme it with accurate calibration values.
